Benzo and school

i am starting in a school about sound-engineering in one month.
itīs a full time study.
i have a very strong social anxciety disorder, so i wouldnt be able to attend the school without benzoes.
my question is if using a rather high dosage of for example xanax (3x2mg) while i am at the school, if this will weaken my learning ability. i also wonder if anyone knows which benzo that would be the best using while i am at school....

Re: Benzo and school

SWIM has a pretty nice tolerance to alprazolam(Xanax). Yet if he were to attend school, and take 2mg 3x daily, he would not remember much of what he learned. However, the school days would go by very fast, and probably be pretty fun!

EDIT: If SWIM had to choose a benzodiazepine to take daily, while attending classes, it would be something longer acting, such as clonazepam(Klonopin), or lorazepam(Ativan), or possibly diazepam(Valium). This all depends on SWIY's doctor's preference.

Anytime SWIM has drank a few mountain dew while taking his benzos, he cancelled out the effects of the benzos COMPLETELY. Isn't a side effect of caffeine (actually stimulants in general) anxiety?

It certainly can be in a lot of cases. SWIG avoids all caffeine based soft drinks as it certainly revs up SWIGS mind and anxiety levels.

Re: Benzo and school

There are plenty of other benzodiazepines which are effective anti anxiety agents, but don't cause much amnesia, like lorazepam, bromazepam and diazepam. Certainly don't go for alprazolam or any other short acting benzodiazepine, since they cause the strongest amnesia, clonazepam would be a good alternative as well, but if I'm not mistaken Rivotril(clonazepam) is only prescribed for seizures here in Europe. Tell your doctor the problem and he'll probably change your script to a better suiting benzo.

Re: Benzo and school

SWIM once took 4mg of alprazolam during school with no tolerance. Was the day fun for SWIM? Yes. SWIM enjoyed hearing the funny things that he did all throughout the day, but in the learning aspect of the day nothing was achieved. SWIM took a look at his school work and couldn't help laughing at the nonsense.

alprazolam probably would not be the smartest choice when trying to do well in school unless it is a non-recreational dosage.

However it is very fn

Re: Benzo and school

ah, well 4mg of alprazolam with no tolerance... I'm surprised you weren't called out by a teacher for appearing intoxicated. SWIM had a friend at school once who fell inside of the garbage can when attempting to empty his tray at lunch time from an 8mg dose with no tolerance i think. SWIM doesn't think SWIM friend got out of the garbage can on his own power either... SWIM believes his friend was unconscious once inside of the garbage can... sleeping soundly at least. Needless to say, that did get the attention of authority figures and SWIM's friend was banned from our school.

EDIT: SWIM is pretty sure his friend didn't learn much that day, other than not to take 8mg alprazolam at once... however these are not typical dosages that would be prescribed to your average joe.

Using that much Xanax per day is a bad idea. If you feel like need that much just to be comfortable in social situations, maybe you should seek psychotherapy instead of just leaning on drugs. Xanax and other benzos can be a great help to people with social anxiety, but if you have it to that degree, increasing your dosage might work out temporarily but won't in the long run. What you really would wanna do if find out the root cause of why you are so anxious around your peers.

As far as if that dose would weaken your learning ability, yeah it probably would but Im not really sure how much so.

Xanax (Alprazolam) and other benzodiazepines can only cover up symptoms of anxiety.

The quantity of dose we're talking about here (3 x 2mg's) would definitely create a lot of retrograde amnesia, unless SWIY has misused Alprazolam that long that a tolerance has built up. And SWIY would not want to go down that route, it's very often a one way ticket to hell.

Re: Benzo and school

Swim has tried dosing around 3mg of xanax before school, and swim couldn't remember a single thing that happened during the day. If swiy wants to just enjoy school with a nice relaxing buzz, but still be able to learn, swiy should try klonopin. Swim has been taking 2mg of klonopin before school due to anxiety disorder for over a month now, and swim has been able to still pay full attention to class and learn everything that's being taught to swim while enjoying a nice calming buzz to keep his anxiety down.

Re: Benzo and school

Given that benzodiazepines are well recognised to cause anterograde amnesia (prevent new memories being formed), I really don't think they can be recommended as a study aid!

Particularly in the doses being mentioned in this thread

2mg Clonazepam is equivalent to about 40mg Diazepam, which, without tolerance, would drop the majority flat on their arse.

Re: Benzo and school

Yea, swim did forget to mention that he had been taking 1mg of klonopin for a few weeks prior to moving up to 2mg.

Swim has taken diazepam twice before, but even in large doses, swim doesn't seem to feel any effects from them... Maybe swim has an built in tolerance to them?

SWIG never took to Diazepam either. Didn't notice much the same as SWIY. Possibly because Diazepam's effects are 'smoother' than the hit that Alprazolam gives SWIG (SWIG doesn't mind feeling a bit drowsy 'cos for SWIG he at least knows the drug is working and puts his forever overactive mind to rest - for a few hours).

Nicotine might cancel effects of Alpratzolam for some time, usually only for 10min. But for SWIM one cup of coffee seem to even boost alpratzolam effects. Too much is too much, so dont drink too much caffeine... Altought I havent anxiety.
