well, i think it's sucky compared to even soft drugs such as weed...
you temporarily feel sligthly high, but not really many things...
anywayz i might drink a beer or wine, or some vodka from time to time but i would prefer something else to get high.

I hate losing control over my muscles and nervous system. You know, running into stuff involuntarily.
"Fukin wall! Get the fuck outta my way!"
"..and then I punched that nose right in the guy!"
I don't know about ya'll, but I like the way I feel when I'm on it...but, I just don't like the taste. It's gross...

i think alcohol can be treated two different ways:
as a party drug, as in going out and getting drunk with your friends. and as in an actual drug, where you take it and notice the effects. if taken like it is a drug (which it is!) then there is something different about it.

I would never consider drinking as getting high. It is a depressant after all. If anything, I would call it getting low. I wouldn't do it if it weren't so widely available and accepted.

If civilisation was to be run again from the start, I think certain
"drug" drugs would be legal, and alcohol would most definitely be
illegal. Look at any facts and figures about the amount of
problems it causes..

I find alcohol one of the most satisfying drugs, its doesn't have any negative side effects such as nervousness and triped out feeling of stimulants, doesn't have the hard crash of stimulants, doesn't have the paranoia and possible too stoned/triped out feelings of pot, and it works well in varying amounts relating to how drunk you want to be (a very linear consumption vs effect curve)...

So it really depends 4 me. Do i like being drunk? HEll YeaH! But im not an alcoholic anymore. I have everything in control.
Have u always wanted to quit drinkin? But u dont know how? Here is quick and bright! U wont have time to drink after this baby hits u!
Irritating model they interview: I was a really bad alcoholic. I would drink 50 botles of scotch every night. I tried everything 2 quit including blowing my hands off and sewing my lips together. Nothing worked. Then I tried quick and bright. The result? I lost all my hair and went 2 the hospitel after every quick and bright mix 2 have my stumic pumped. I feel great! Quiting alcohol couldnt be easier with quick and bright!
Now u can buy quick and bright 4 just 1999,99, a bottle that will hold u out 2 days.

i have always seen alcohol as a celebrational thing...
i am more of a social drinker, drinking alone has no appeal to me, but going out with a group of friends and having a drink is great
i don't usually like dirnking at partys though, its scary

Oddly enough, I tend to associate alcohol with crappy events / crap
parties. You know, a boring house party, a tedious family
occasion, or a even a monotonous cheesy DJ session.
I know certain appauling clubs I occasionally DJ at, I *HAVE* to be
drunk to get through it. Other decent places, I wouldn't dare
have a drink...

I like to drink just until the limit of not getting a hangover the next day (including the loads of water before going to sleep, to prevent the hangover). When i am shit-drunk (and at home preferably) i produce a joint (more like folding then rolling at that moment, but what the fuck) and smoke it. My drunkenness is like doubled and its great to just sit and watch somediscovery/NG and fall asleep.
Nothing psychedelic or insightfull but very relaxing indeed.

Ahh to Alcohol The Cause and Solution to all Canadians problems----I haved many good times being Drunk...Getting Drunk....And Too drunk....It's argured the worst drug it's argued the best drug...There are no such thing... all drugs have one thing in common they are drugs...Does not mean you can't enjoy them....Do all the drugs you want for all I care...Hell I'll join yeah...but It's impossible to say drugs are safe and don't have ill effect...Don't lie to yourself,,,,any pleasure in life has a price...butthose willing to sacfrice truly enjoy being themselves rather than being labled a drug addict.
i agree with growling_grover, there is nothing insightfull that can ever come from alcohol, it's a damn depressant that numbs your senses and lowers your inabitions whcih can lead to so many problems dealing with family, significant other, and friends, a senseless drugthat is legal in amerika, go figure tho

Well, it's not good for tripping out. Personally, I wouldn't want to be tripping every time I go out with friends.

Umm .. except for the works of countless alcoholic artists and writers.
Alcohol is a great drug. It does affect people differently though. If you can't tolerate its effects, too bad for you.
whcih can lead to so many problems dealing with family, significant other, and friends
Unlike other drugs .. huh?
Actually, small regular doses of some alcohol (red wine, for example) have been shown to reduce certain types of hear disease. Alcohol has its place...it's a drug that has a long history of responsible use, and has very well understood and predictable effects, unlike a lot of other drugs.
One of the nicer things about alcohol is that it can be measurably quantified. You can say accurately how much alcohol is in a bottle of rum/malt liquor/everclear/Mad Dog 2020. That's a lot harder with organic drugs like weed/shrooms. Part of this ability to regulate the content of alcohol is due to favorable legislation.
If you're having bad hangovers...try drinking a few glassses of water before you crash. It'll help. Or, conversely, try drinking less. There's a popular concept that More = better. In the case of alcohol....that's a quick road to disaster. There's a sustainable middle ground that most people can maintain.
Regardless, to say that "nothing good" comes out of alcohol is short sighted...it's a drug like any other, it has potential for abuse, and potential for responsible use. If your family has a history of alcoholism, you probably should be very careful when you drink.
There are pros and cons to alcohol...but the one thing that's clear is that because it's been deemed "legal", we've had much greater opportunity to explore and adjust it for proper use. It comes in any number of flavors/strengths/levels of class (Steel Reserve/Aged Port). We've allowed our culture to figure out how to fit it into our lives.
Using ANYTHING for the wrong reasons is going to casue trouble in your life. You can cause yourself serious physical harm just by drinking too much water. Alcohol, like anything else, needs to be treated with balance.

I think alcohol really is at its best when in a social setting. It makes you sociable and helps you meet new people. Maybe your having trouble approaching a fine young lass just throw back a couple drinks and it makes it a lot easier. While I dont think its as good as opiates or even Marijuana it certainly has its place.

I dont drink to get High I drink to get drunk its 2 totally different things to me
nEone: the positive effects from a glass of red wine are not related to
its alcohol content, but from some side effect of the fermentation
process. I'd look it up, but I'm lazy. However, I think you
can get the same effect from drinking grape juice or cranberry juice,
you just need to drink more juice than you need to drink wine.

Well on that note dmax - heres a couple snippets Ive been hangin onto from www.newscientist.com for a while:
In the largest such study to date, older women who drank moderately had less mental decline than those who abstained.
The study is one of the most comprehensive looks yet at an issue that
is gathering urgency as America ages: Are there ways to prevent the
cognitive decline that often comes with old age?
Monitoring the drinking histories of 11,102 nurses for nearly 20 years,
researchers found that light to moderate drinking of any kind of
alcoholic beverage reduced the risk of mental decline by more than 20%,
compared with abstinence.
Essentially, their brains were the cognitive equivalent of being 1.5 years younger.
"I recommend moderate drinking," said lead author Meir Stampfer, a
professor of epidemiology and nutrition at the Harvard School of Public
Health.
Some cancers are caused by heterocyclic amines, DNA-damaging chemicals
found in cooked meat and fish. When Sakae Arimoto-Kobayashi's team at
Okayama University in Japan fed these chemicals to mice, the DNA damage
to their liver, lungs and kidneys was reduced by up to 85% if the mice
drank non-alcoholic beer instead of water.
Arimoto-Kobayashi thinks as-yet unidentified compounds in lager and
stout prevent the amines binding to and damaging DNA. If these
compounds can be identified, brewers might be able to produce beers
particularly rich in them, or they could be added to foods.
Heavy alcohol consumption is blamed for around 6% of all cancers in
western countries (New Scientist print edition, 18 December 2004),
though moderate consumption reduces the risk of heart disease. Since
the mice drank non-alcoholic beer, the findings do not show whether
moderate consumption of normal beer has any anti-cancer benefits. "The
total benefits and risks of beer with alcohol are still under
consideration," says Arimoto-Kobayashi.

Basically, no one really knows what's good yet. But lots of people
drink and live to a ripe old age, so I wouldnt sweat it either way.

the government was us by the balls alchol is the cheapest buzz around
and you dont have to worry about you hook up running out or going to
jail if pot was as cheap and available I would hardly ever drink

I personally hate alcholol... not sure why i drink so often though. Not
so much as the effects that i dislike, but the fact that its legal and
SO widely accepted. My parents are big alchololics and they get in big
fights because they are drunk. Once they caught me smoking weed and
freaked out, saying shit like "Thats going to kill you you fucking
hippie" and "Now your gonna drop out of school and suck dick for a dime
bag right???". I want to just fucking punch them because of how fucking
dumb they are for not even seeing that alcholol is like 500 times
worse. When im high, i do my homework, talk with friends, do chores,
all sorts of good, healthy stuff. All they do when drunk is bitch,
whine and vomit.
Another thing that pisses me off are the people in school. Ill tell
them about a party and ask them for money (where im from, its customary
to give 10$ to the host of a party for assistance in purchacing weed
and beer). They usually only give me 5$ saying that they want that to
go to the beer, and not weed, because apparently in their minds, weed
is a horrible, dangerous, life-threatening thing. Im almost certain
that if they actually tried it, they would never say that again. But
they think beer is fine just because their parents do it...
ahem... sorry about that, its just something im very passionate about.
Its like fucking racism against all ILLEGAL drugs, some of which are
safer and better for you then alcholol. IMO, alcholol is the most
accepted and therefor worst drug on earth.

If substances were banned based soley on how good/bad they are for you, pot would be legal and alcohol would not.
Stingray_313

Phungushead, i could not agree more. Its just a matter of the
government taking control of sales because they are money hungry facist
bastards who care not for the people, but their enslavement and wealth.
Just my thoughts on the subject.
I heard a rumor that if the government gets control of the marijuana
market, it will become legal. The only reason alcholol is legal, is
because its so difficult for people to make it themselves, and people
like it, so they want to take advantage of our addictions. They
basically have a monopoly where all the money goes to them. Sorry if i
got off topic. Its just something that pisses me off.

Heh, i just love it when my mum tells me not to smoke.. "but grant its a drug" then i smartly remind her that alcohol is also a drug..... my mum drinks like a fish!! http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
nEone: [alcohol has] predictable effects
yes it does have predictable effects, butcan thepredictable effects predict what that intoxicated person is going to do with those predictable effects? drink and drink?, start fights or try to show his masculinity? act like a person who enjoys publiclyhumilitating themselves? it's not a drug for me.

you are very right about that. that was a very closeminded responce from me. just bc alcohol doesn't play into my hands, i shouldn't write it off for what is worth
but i really hate what alcohol (acute and chronic effects)does to people. it doesn't destroy your life life rapidly asheroin can do, it will just do it over a long period of time. i just can't think of ppl who have cannabisism (jk) butianalyze alcohol and it's potential devastating acute and chronic effects. i just don't see the benefits overweighingtherisks of alcoholEdited by: buekerc1
