for some reason i started drinking heavily during my mid-twenties. i'm mid thrities now and i'm still the same. i know i've got an addition and it's hurting people around me. where's the best place to start giving it up cos i'm bored now
depends it also damaging you too depending on how much one drinks. Swia feels with drink comparing to other substances it makes her more meaner while at the same time she loves that feeling, not being an asshole but the depressant feelings on how it makes her feel.
She loves how it makes her feel low as she can always make something creative out of it. But generally she only drinks smaller amounts. other times she gets drawn back to that feeling. its a favorite but not at the same time. Moderation is key. but still difficult to accomplish.

I've recently given up the drink, and its not as hard as you might think, as it was a psychological addiction for me rather than a physical one. The way I did it was, everytime you fancy a drink have a glass of fruit juice, worked a treat. One of my friends also gave up recently through the help of AA meetings, not for me as I tend to favour self reliance rather than "a power greater than oneself" when it comes to these things. Best thing you can do is have people around you who can support you and you can talk things through with.
Hope this helps, and good luck in banishing the most destructive of drugs
Over the last week, SWIM has detoxed off alcohol. It wasn't easy; he'd developed much more of a tolerance than he had suspected. In fact, it would have been damn near impossible w/o prescribed valium.
As for can SWIM STAY off booze, time will tell, but his University, his Physician, and the Law are all giving him a powerful incentive to take the "28 day cure."
