I don't know if any of this will apply to anyone, but be careful of sleeping pill addiction, i know someone that has been taking about 6 before going to bed, sometimes this person would take over 20, with the reason of "It makes me feel good" , but i couldnt honestly say if its addictive, im sure just about anytihng is addictive to someone, im just posting this to make sure some people be careful.. well not so much that, just it was something to say..

Sleeping pills are highly habit forming and tolerance builds quickly, especially among the benzo's such as valium, temazepam and nitrazepam(Mogadon), but also with the newer Z-drugs, Zoleplan, Zolpidem and Zopiclone.
Withdrawal involves increased anxiety, irritability, and you guessed it, sleeplessness! Aside from the physical withdrawal and the psychological dependence, this is because the underlying problem hasn't been addressed. Sleepers are like putting a sticking plaster on an abscess - it just covers it up, but doesn't cure it. You need to ask why you're not sleeping - work stress, strung out on chemicals(whether speed, h, or even humble ol' caffeine), or something a little more serious such as depression or psychosis/mania, whatever. When you've sussed this out ask yourself what you can do about it.
Vastly over-simplified, I know. And insomnia aint fun after a while. There is definitely a case for using sleepers, but only in the short term, and with a tapered withdrawal.
Do your homework.

i used to be addicted to valiums. God damm it was a hard one to shake. Now i can use them with moderation and not be addicted. Only use these for the short term. I remember days of falling asleep in the shower and at work and in the car at time in parking lots. Not a fun thing.
Some of the worst looking addicts that came to our pharmacy were addicted to benzo's.
And getting off them is hell. Does you friend knowhe has a problem ?
trazedone can help with with drawl symptoms and get him to sleep.
However be cautious giving trazedone as one of the side effects is an increase in benzo effectiveness, and people often try to get scripts because they know it makes there high better.
has he tried pot ?
many people I have talked to who were addicted to sleeping pills accredit Pot (usually in conjunction with other meds.) for getting them off them for good.
sleeping pills and benzo's can be just as addictiv as herion in fact meny delers in the uk cut herion with benzo's as it makes you feel more sleepy and out of it. anyone with addiction to anything should seek help if its causeing them a problem. but just because someone takes a large amount does not meen it is causeing them helth problems my parter will requaly take 280 mg of valium or tamazepam to get out of his tree with no notible helth problems. this does not meen someone else wont get problems though.

i'm addicted to lorazepam, and it's really hard to stop this.... without lorazepam i'm unable to sleep all night long, i have tremors, cold sweat, paranoid thinking, and strange nightmares..... i took the last one 6 days ago.... and i see only little improvements.
I'll give GABA a try.
alot of the time you get these type of side effects because of the fact you have been taking the pills for so long so your body is withdrawing. remember what you where like befor you started taking them you probibly did not feel like you do know but had difficulty sleeping at times this can be for lots of resions stress for exsample busy lifestyle ect... if you want to stop taking them cut down slowly your doctor whould not exspect you to cut them all out at once as this is not good for your helth after a long time of useing any substance, medicin even vitamins. also if you feel you may still need something to help you sleep but want of the pills compleatly not just to cut down the amount your useing. slowly ween your self off of them or ask your doctor for help and advice as there maybe some other medication he can give you.if you feel unable to do this you could try herbal remideysto aidsleep also try some light exsersise a few hours befor you want to go to bed maybe an evening walk not to strenuas as to work your self up the aim is to relax and unwind also try some deap breathing exsercises and or meditation to help relax and clear your mind of any negative thoughts and to calm your mind of the stress of the day be it work or what ever. also a hot bath with relaxing bath oils an hour befor bed helps you unwind. also try some lavinder orama theripy oil a few drops on your pillow will help keep you relaxed in bed. i myself had difficulty sleeping and was taking large amounts of sleeping pills and would change them every few months as i built up tollarance to them but with some help from the above mentioned teceqs i get better sleep. i still now and then reach for the pills though if i am having difficulty and you may need to aswell as some times its all we can do to get a good rest. also another tip is if possible get your self into a rouine of getting up and going to bed at about the same time every day and put your body clock back in order. of cause there will be ocasions where you will need to stay up later or get up erlyer but try to stablise a rutine againas soon as possible after this. i hope this helps you out and you are able to get some rest. also try to avoid stimulants in the evning like coffe ect as this can effect how well you sleep to. if i can give you ne more help or ne thing else you want to know about drop us a line.
