Listerene is good, but once the cops get a whiff you'll be getting a sobriety test.

Does any know good
ways to cover up the smell of alcohol on your
breath?
Easy!

Take a small clove of garlic and chew it up real good;
swish it all around in your mouth. under your tongue
and between your gums.
Sip a little water and garggle with the chewed garlic if
you can. Then spit the shit out.

No more alcohol smell.
You're done!

If you drink alot you cant cover it up. The alcohol comes out of your swett glands too. I once ate a can of mints at school and I still smelled like alcohol.

The garlic is a good idea if your ok with having terrible breathe, i would
just suggest a full meal, or a couple junior bacons and a medium fry from
wendy's , thats wat i usually do. bread group foods and milk help a bit
more.

I am a notorious closet drinker and my wife hates me for it coz i booze
it at night when she goes to sleep or sneak out and drink until I
pratically pass out..

Good thing I found to cover up alcohol breath are two things

1) a nice fatty stinky slice of cheese every now and then so my wife says my breath smells like dead rat

2) they sell breath fresheners in these capsule forms that is supposed
to help with bad breath that starts at the source which is the stomach
so you swallow a few of those bad boys and belches are coming up sweet
as sunshine.. little hard to find tho

Drink Vodka, no smell no tell.

Go with Silent Sam, he's silent for two reasons; 1) he dosn't tell anyone you've been drinking and 2) He sneaks right up on you and sends you into unsobriety land with out you even knowinghttp://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif

if i spend a night drinking vodka, i sweat it out, and my mouth smells
like booze just like any other drink. i don't see how vodka doesn't
leave a scent? its ethanol just like other boozes.

Here is the thing: what smells is the booze that has been going through your mouth. Pure ethanol itself has NO SMELL, so the blood alcohol level of your breath is absolutely no indicator of your drinking [if you don't believe me, do some research]. Therefor, very diluted drinks or other maskers like mouthwash, gum, or garlic will work. Only problem is that often products like mouthwash smell quite similar to alcohol and actually inspire sobriety tests. So washing your mouth out with something and then eating something else [e.g. garlic] to mask the smell seems like the best option...

the garlic thing makes it worse, the garlic causes the alcohol to come out of your pores more. Try it drink then eat a bunch of garlic when you wake up you will smell worse than the night before

The myth that vodka doesn't smell on your breath is a complete myth. Fishermen's friends sweets, or tunes/lockets are what I used to use, but you'll never kid anyone if you've been drinking like a fish ;)

I know this topic has been brought up several times and I've already
done a search for it, but are there any non-suspicious, non-disgusting
[as in don't suggest chewing garlic] things to do to get oneself to
stop smelling like alcohol?

This isn't for a breathalyzer or anything, it's just so I can drink at home without worrying the family & such.

Mouth wash is pretty good for covering up the alcohol smell, but you gotta worry about the alcohol smell coming from your skin, depending on how much you've drank. Remember, alcohol can be smelled from your body since it can seep from the pores of your skin. That is why cops have no problem smelling out a drunk.

My technique for disguising the smell is to be eating or drinking (something non alcoholic) after i've had the alcohol. i've noticed that the smell will come back a few minutesafter brushing teeth or usingmouth wash so this seems to be the best way.

i usually brush my teeth, then eat some food that usually leaves a smell on your breath, chex mix for example has a strong smell, just thnk of snacks that u can always smell on someones breath and voila. also try not to drink too much soda, cuz then you will burp thus resulting in more alcy breath

vodka has little smell

"why do you prefer your men to drink whiskey instead of vodka"

"cuz than at least people will know there drunk, not stupid"

also ive heard cranberry juice, axe, and a number of other things i contribute to rumor or "sounds like it'd work"

I wouldn't worry about it. If anyone smells it on your breath just say, " heeeaaay you, I can quit any time I want. Don't you judge me!" Then knock something over and say, " I'm going for a walk! F you all!"

Breathmints that you swallow to cover up garlic breath i think work..
The smell comes from your guys emiting alcohol so need to cover it up
at the core.. The breathmints i use are called MintAsure and they are
natural(mint and some other stuff) and operate after you swallow them..

USe cologne or spray deoderant for your body so when its seeps from your pours, and strong flavoured meets for your breath like meat sticks

My favorite are the listerine breath strips. I like them because
they cover up pretty fast. I think anything over a breathmint or
some food is trying to hard. I once knew a guy who would drink
some listerine mouth wash to stop the alcohol smell from coming out of
the stomach.

chewing gum, breath mint, stong smelling crisps or "chips"

i dont know about the chips. the salt makes you even more dehydrated but i found some left over candy canes, i guess i'll give them to him to munch on.

You can always keep a small bottle of cologne, the trick is to actually spray it like ten or fifteen minutes before you actually have to walk in the door so you don't have that, man i just bathed in cologne smell that just makes you seem guilty. Maybe that and combine it with some good chewing gum and if your extra paranoid, or clumsy w/ your alcohol you could keep an extra shirt around that your not wearing so when your friend goes home his clothes don't smell other then that i am lost for words.

Stoner methods! yay!

Febreeze in the mouth (no flavored ones). When talking to parents (especially hugging them if they make you do so)....hold your breath. Speak softly so stenches don't travel far.

Whatever you do...don't use Axe...it amplifies the smell (or most spray on deodorants). Cologne is a good idea....but as Chemlove said...too much will make things suspicious.

Also...a little random....but make sure you talk to the parents....not too much...ask them the general small talk...so they know you're alright (don't come in looking like ur drunk either btw....tidy up)...and then mind ur business.

If they're on high high high suspicion.....simply lay off the booze....It's worth it.

P.S. When I say "you," I mean to address this to whoever needs the advice...I'm only speaking colloquially.

SWIM finds BBQ Lays the best for masking the smell and NOT drawing attention.

Especially if SWIY is under 21.
Dehydration is always a factor so make sure to drink a good ammount of water, plus SWIY will have less of a hangover. :)

Removing mucus from the back of the tongue is an important one. Some toothbrushes come with a plastic ridge on the back of the brush head in order to remove any build-up of goo. This build-up tends to get smell stronger when one drinks so be sure to limit it. Most bad breath is caused by the same build-up. So once that's sorted, just make sure not to burp!

a little off topic, but it must be said. this is the smartest and most informitive forum i've ever seen. there's no flaming bullshit, people have GRAMMAR, etc. makes me feel stupid, but I came here for knowlage, and the info i've learned has helped me immensely. and i defintily agree to start small talk, just for a little deception. all these ideas will probably be used, and thank you again!

Another option is to drink vodka, maybe as a screwdriver (vodka + orange juice). That has pretty much no smell to start with.

Paracelsus
17-01-2008, 22:03
I second that. Vodka in moderation, along with some chewing gum (which should be spit out before facing anyone), can make the smell pretty much unnoticeable. Beer and wine should be avoided at all costs if smell is an issue.

Archenemy
17-01-2008, 22:33
SWIY also needs to watch out for sweating... especially with Rum or Vodka

Alcohol seeps through you're pores... everytime SWIM drinks alot, he is oblivious to the alcohol smell upon him. Just be careful and stay safe :)

The problems with using cologne and mouthwash are twofold: first, they're both alcohol-based, and you're basically covering up one kind of booze smell with another. Also (along with chewing gum and toothpaste) they're widely known as smell-maskers and tend to arouse suspicion--especially if SWIY isn't normally the type to wear lots of cologne. In that respect they remind me of insence to cover up pot: works in theory, but it's a giveaway SWIY's hiding something.

Your best bet is to use something smelly that isn't usually associated with smell-masking. SWIM finds eating peanut butter to be one of the best options.

Vodka is a very good choice for a situation like this, though we don't always get to choose what we are drinking. Personally, I used to carry around small bottles of mouth wash and spray such as Febreze. Use the mouthwash to clean your mouth out, and then consume some food to restore the natural smell of a not recently cleaned mouth. As for the Febreze, as others have said make sure you spray it a decent amount of time before you actually arrive home, and you may actually want to simply spray the spray on your actual skin and replace your drinking shirt with one that was worn through the day before as it should of collected some odors of it's own by that time.

1) Smoke a cigarette right before you meet your parents if they don't care if you smoke. That stench will cover just about anything (I used to be addicted to nicotine).

Or

2) Stop drinking an hour before you have to meet your parents and munch on chips/crisps (depending on country) and drink a carbonated drink like coke with salt and vinegar flavored chips/crisps. Make sure to save a little coke and drink it right before you walk in the door. Works like a charm!

Caveat: at a certain point of alcohol consumption there is nothing you can do. Those mornings when you wake up still intoxicated...I doubt anything would have fooled mom and dad the night before.

SWIM new a girl who would carry around a small jar of peanut butter. Worked like a charm every time. Just take some on you finger wipe it on the roof of your mouth. You might stink like peanuts but it will mask the smell very well. Hot sauce will also be very effective. Shy away from anything containing mint its a dead give away. If you put on cologne put some on BEFORE you leave to go drink. Then reapply before coming back inside

CHOCOLATE

SWIM knows this as fact. Chocolate will hide alcohol smell on ones breath immediately. If Swims don't believe me, after having some beers or drinks eat a cholocate bar or any type of milk chocolate candy and have a friend who has not been drinking check your breath.

You will be astonished with the results.

And another strange fact--you will rarely find chocolate candy sold in US liquor stores--why this is I have never understood. They sell gum, chips, pretzels, popcorn, etc, etc.

I have this really weird thing. I can always smell when someone has had alcohol. To me it just comes across really strongly, even if they have just had a half pint they end up smelling like a bottle of whisky. It’s just about my only skill. It would be the worlds WORST super power…

Anyways, I would say don’t get in a situation where you don’t have to avoid detection for whatever reason. However, I also know that there are times when you just have to. So, yes, I’d drink things that consist of vodka and citrus fruit. I find that lime is especially good of getting rid of odour in your mouth. That or orange.

SWMs mom was the same way, when I lived with my parents SWIM couldn't get away with drinking even half a beer. She could pick up on the slightest odor of alcohol, it was kind of uncanny. Luckily for SWIM they got over the fact he was going to drink even though he was under age.

SWIM thinks a combination of these methods stated are SWIYs best bet of beating the alcohol smell.

swim has a mom just like that. she can smell it even if he took one sip of any alcoholic beverage whatever it may be. even if its cracked open or whatever. swims mom would not mind the drinking so much but swim is prescribed Klonopin/Rivotril (clonazepam). he started at 20ct .5mg per month for anxiety as needed. well swims tolerance kept going up and up, as did the dose. now swim got 40 1mg pills for 1 week with a refill he just refilled the other day for another week. it's rediculous how the tolerance goes up with this. and swim has to have about 2-3 drinks to even feel it recreationally. and with this he doesn't even get the shaky vision, strong euphoria and all that other good stuff that happed when he started. it sucks. when swim got his bottle refilled, over the course of three hours he ate 17mg clonazepam and drank one bottle of wine. (it was more like the 17mg over a few hours and just downed the bottle of wine). and the sickest part about it was is swim didn't really feel at all intoxicated for some reason. but he had A LOT of anxiety that day so that could have something to do with it. btw swim has built a huge tolerance to these meds and anyone who thinks they can do what swim did and doesn't have a HUGE tolerance is not too smart and are going to end up in the hospital so please keep that in mind. swim in NO WAY reccomends doing what he did. it was a stupid idea in the first place. sorry for rambling. but anyways swim really would like to know if there is a way to get it off the breath as swims mom gets pissed when he drinks with his meds. swim only read a few posts above and it doesn't sound good. but swim will read all of it soon to see if there is a way.
