It is used as an antipsychotic, it is a sedative and is used for many things including: (between 15-100mg) anxiety, acute mania, agitated depressions, alcohol and drug withdrawal, insomnia, and cotreatment for pain. Be careful if you take lithium as it can increase lithium plasma levels and give you lithium intoxication. As well as opiates, it makes the opiates ~50% more potent so adjust doses accordingly. When combined with tramadol it can cause severe seizures.
50mg is most likely to be a dose for insomnia or anxiety. upwards of 100-200mg it is used for schizophrenia and drug psychosis.
SWIM took 50mg, later he took 75mg and finally 25mg and he's feeling little bit sedated..
SWIM slept for like 18-20 hours straight..

hmm interesting. So you took 150mg total? Maybe it would better used in conjuction with opiates as opposed to on its own for sedative purposes.

This stuff is seriously old school, and as such probably potentially seriously nasty. I hope you SWiJ has a stock of antimuscarinics to hand in case of epse's. Shit, this isn't used in Briton at all anymore, if it ever was. Some anxiolytic/hypnotic potential, other than that don't bother.
Please people, stop messing around with antipsychotics. They are not toys, and should only be taken as prescribed for the condition prescribed for, and then only if absolutely necessary.
Truxal (Chlorprothixene) is neither a "Downer" nor a "sleeping Pill". As IHH points out it is an antipsychotic, or "Chemical Cosh" as some call this class of drugs.
It is a thioxanthene (as is flupenthixol) and should be regarded with the utmost suspicion, whatever the drug-company blurb says about it being useful for anxiety and depression and not causing extra-pyramidal side-effects.
Some side effects:
Muscle spasms of the face, neck, and back, tic-like or twitching movements, inability to move the eyes, twisting of the body, or weakness of the arms and legs (via dopamine receptors)
Constipation, dizziness or fainting, drowsiness, dryness of mouth and urinary retention (via muscarinic receptors). Hang on there's also the risk of serious hypotension as well.
Parkinsonism and tardive dyskinesia (rapid, worm-like movements of the tongue or any other uncontrolled movements of the mouth, tongue, or jaw, and/or arms and legs) again, via dopamine receptors.
As with other antipsychotics it also plays havoc with prolactin levels. This means gynaecomastia (man-boobs), loss of libido, weight gain and galactorrhoea (milk production in non-nursing females).
These drugs have horrible side effects and are really not worth the irsk. Please don't take them
EDIT: SWIJ forgot to mention the risk of liver failure. Which doesn't seem to make them an ideal candidate for alcohol detox does it?

1000mg and nothing happened at all? No sedation? No side effects? Your monkey just went about his day-to-day business? He is either seriously psychotic, naturally resistant to typical antipsychotics, lying or unwittingly did not take Truxal at all but something else...
