Why not to post wikipedia links

If you add wikipedia links to your post your post will enter the moderation queue and will then not be approved.

I can fully understand that this may seem over the top to some people, because wikipedia is a informative website and information should be available to everyone. However there are several problems with posting wikipedia links:

• Links die in time. Even wikipedia links. We are currently cleaning up a massive amount, which will likely cost me weeks to do.
• A link to wikipedia is not an answer to a question or information requested here. Often its little better than a link to a Google search. Especially in cases where information is available here. I personally think that a link to the DXM wikipedia page is rather sour when you consider our much better DXM wiki.
• Many posts contain a large number of wikipedia-links. Many of those links are not related to this site or the discussed topic. The links are merely present because the poster is too lazy to remove the formatting.
• Google actively punishes drugs-forum for its wikipedia links. Now this may seem unimportant to some, but the effect is likely that somewhere around 90.000 less people that come in here per month. This has a major effect on drugs-forum.
• If you want to reference your post with wikipedia comments, then mind that this is little different than using a forum post to reference your claims with. If a wikipedia article has references about the statement that you want to use, then check out the links used as references.

So what to do if you want to post information from wikipedia?

Simply post the text in notepad and copy it from there. This way the text will not have wikipedia links in it.
